The popular forward rejoins the Jammers from Stanway Rovers, whom he joined in the summer of 2026 after helping Brentwood Town reach the Isthmian Premier League play-off final last season.
A local lad and a firm fans’ favourite, Hughes will be welcomed back with open arms by the Maldon & Tiptree faithful, having already enjoyed two successful spells in Jammers colours.
Hughes first made his mark at Park Drive during the memorable 2019/20 campaign, becoming a key figure in the side that captured the imagination of the footballing world with their Emirates FA Cup run. The Jammers famously defeated League Two Leyton Orient in the First Round before bowing out in the Second Round against Newport County.
It was a season to remember for the club, with Wayne Brown’s side also sitting top of the Isthmian League North Division when the COVID-19 pandemic brought the campaign to an abrupt end, with the season subsequently expunged.
Hughes’ second spell with the Jammers was shorter, as he departed midway through the season to join Hemel Hempstead. However, his impact in front of goal during his time at Park Drive has been undeniable.
Across his two previous spells, the striker has registered an impressive 39 goals in just 64 appearances, averaging better than a goal every two games. Among those goals are three hat-tricks, underlining his ability to deliver match-winning performances and provide a regular threat to opposition defences.
