Maldon & Tiptree 0–2 Egham Town: Jammers exit FA Trophy

Maldon & Tiptree’s FA Trophy campaign ended in disappointment as Egham Town claimed a 2–0 victory at the Maldon Stadium.

New signings Marlon Agyakwa and Yassin Fares both went straight into the starting eleven, but a cagey first half gave neither side a breakthrough. The teams went in level at 0–0, with the tie still there to be won.

The second half could hardly have started worse for the Jammers. Just three minutes after the restart, Deago Dunbar-Bonnie struck to give Egham the lead. Maldon & Tiptree had time to respond, but the visitors doubled their advantage in the 66th minute when Connor Cullen converted from the penalty spot.

The Jammers refused to let the tie slip away without a fight. With around ten minutes remaining, Egham’s Connor Jeanes was shown a straight red card, and Maldon & Tiptree pushed forward with renewed urgency. Chances came and the pressure grew, but they could not find the goal that might have changed the closing stages.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Jammers. After a first half in which little separated the sides, two goals after the break proved decisive, and their late efforts were not enough to prevent an FA Trophy exit on home soil.
