Lewes 1–1 Maldon & Tiptree at The Dripping Pan in the Isthmian League - Premier Division.
Match Report
A stunning debut from Jammers’ goalkeeper Bradley Robinson helped Maldon & Tiptree secure a vital point against Lewes on Saturday. Robinson, whose signing from Waltham Abbey was announced this week was in inspired form to repel a late onslaught at The Dripping Pan.
The Maldon number one was called into action early on to make a sharp save, pushing away Noel Fisher’s fierce drive with three minutes gone. Maldon worked their way into the game and soon Louis Rogers was being worked in the Lewes goal. Ade Cole and Jamie Bennett both had shots saved.
Charlee Hughes headed wide for Maldon before Kurtis Cumberbatch poked wide at the front post for the hosts as a tentative first struggled to catch light.
With 24 minutes played, Lewes were given a golden chance to break the deadlock. Tom Eastman brought down Jack Enkh and the referee pointed to the spot. Harry Mills stepped up and sent Robinson the wrong way to give his side the lead.
Eastman nearly made amends just four minutes later as Maldon set about finding an equaliser, but headed narrowly wide.
The levelling goal that Maldon deserved eventually came seven minutes before half-time. Lewes couldn’t clear a corner and Eastman was on hand to slam home. Tyler Cox nearly restored the Lewes lead on the stroke of half-time, but his shot flashed just past the far post.
HALF-TIME: LEWES 1-1 MALDON & TIPTREE
Ex-Jammer Ryan Gondoh had claims for a penalty turned away just after the break as the referee instead showed the Lewes man a yellow card for simulation.
Kennedy Dariri headed over from a corner just before the hour, before Robinson produced another fine save to tip Enkh’s shot over the bar five minutes later. Dariri was then denied a fine solo goal as danced through the Lewes backline, only to see his shot saved by Rogers.
As the game ticked away, the Lewes pressure was starting to mount. Robinson brilliantly saved from Fisher, tipping the ball onto the bar. Tyler Christian-Law had a header pushed away, before Danny Bassett contrived to miss from a yard out.
Gondoh was denied again by Robinson with Bobby Unwin smashing the rebound into the stands before a second Rooks’ penalty claim fell on deaf ears. The full- time whistle signalled a first point under new manager Steve Butterworth and a welcome reward for an impressive display.
Next up is a trip to Aveley on Monday night.
