Scouse, as he is known within the non-league community, joins the club from Brentwood Town where he was the assistant to Keith Rowland until departing earlier this month. During his time at Brentwood, Steve contributed to one of their most successful periods, winning the Isthmian League North in the 2024/25 season before reaching the Isthmian Premier play-off final last season - narrowly losing to Billerciay Town in the final.
As a manager, Steve has previously held roles at Great Wakering, Romford and East Thurrock United respectively. Whilst in charge of Romford, Butterworth led his side to the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup and the last 16 of the FA Vase for the first time since the 1990s. During his illustrious playing career, Scouse played in the National League and was a long-serving member of Great Wakering Rovers.
Speaking on the appointment, Sonny Shahnawaz said: “We’re delighted to welcome Steve to Maldon & Tiptree. He brings experience, ambition and a real understanding of non-league football. We’re building something for the long term here, and we believe Steve is the right man to lead the team into this next chapter. We’re excited to see what he can achieve with the squad and he’ll have our full backing.”
A full interview with Steve and Sonny will be available on Jammers TV very soon. You can follow our new First Team Manager on X, by searching @Scouse_7.
