Maldon & Tiptree 1–5 Cray Wanderers

A difficult night at The Maldon Stadium saw Maldon & Tiptree beaten 5–1 by Cray Wanderers in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

The Jammers were dealt an early setback when Cray took the lead after just six minutes, an own goal putting the visitors 1–0 ahead.

Despite falling behind so early, Maldon stayed in the contest for much of the opening half. The score remained 0–1 until the closing stages of the half, when Cray struck twice in quick succession.

Soul Kader doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 40th minute to make it 0–2, before Sammie McLeod added a third in the 44th minute, sending Cray into the interval 3–0 ahead.

Maldon made a change at the break, introducing Samuel Adeyeye as they looked for a way back into the match.

The Jammers worked to gain a foothold during the second half, but Cray extended their lead in the 74th minute when captain Ade Yusuff found the net to make it 0–4.

Maldon responded four minutes later. Samuel Adeyeye scored in the 78th minute to reduce the deficit to 1–4, giving the home support something to celebrate.

Any momentum from the goal was short-lived, however. Ola Ogunwamide struck for Cray in the 80th minute, restoring the four-goal advantage and taking the score to 1–5.

A difficult evening was compounded in the closing stages when Scott Simmons was shown a red card in the 86th minute.

There were no further goals, with the final whistle confirming a 5–1 victory for Cray Wanderers.
